Charlamagne Tha God Explains Why He Cancelled On Event With Kanye West

These days, there's hardly ever a passing moment when Kanye West isn't in the news. The rap artist is typically the source of media coverage and speculation, and with all the various controversies that surround the musician, one might be tempted to interview the contentious personality and figure out what is going on in his head. While Charlamagne Tha God had an opportunity to meet and talk with Kanye West in a sold-out event, he ultimately passed on that engagement. In a recent television appearance on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert, Charlamagne explained why he didn't speak with Kanye West.

The Breakfast Club radio host was on the late night talk show to promote his latest book, Shook One: Anxiety Playing Tricks On Me, but the extended conversation eventually revolved around the ever-controversial Kanye West, as many conversations these days ultimately do. Colbert took the time to ask Charmalagne Tha God about the sold-out twelve hundred seat event at TimesTalks, a public speaking event hosted by The New York Times, which Charmalagne ultimately backed out of. The musician and the radio host have a correspondence together, and they did an interview together earlier this year, but Charmalagne didn't feel comfortable engaging with Kanye West again at this public forum.

As Charlamagne Tha God explains in this Late Show clip, the radio personality was concerned when Kanye West claimed he wasn't on his medication. While Kanye has often talked about being diagnosed with bipolar disorder, he may be changing his tune. The radio host claims Kanye West was actually sleep deprived, and Charlamagne believed that Kanye needed to figure things out before he appeared with him at this public event. As Charlamagne admits, he is concerned about "the stigma around mental health" and "the conversation of mental health in the black community." Therefore, Charlamagne was concerned that the conversation they would have together would ultimately be "a distraction" instead of truly beneficial.

We're certain that Kanye West will be in the news again soon -- for one reason or another, whether it relates to his alliance with President Donald Trump, his social media behavior or what-have-you. Whenever Kanye appears in the news again, we'll definitely keep you posted at CinemaBlend.
