‘Winter Soldier’s’ Frank Grillo Says Next Captain America Might Be A Woman Or Person Of Color

We don’t have a title for the film or even a plot synopsis, but we do know one thing about “Avengers 4,” the film will feature the swansong for Chris Evans, aka Captain America. Whether that means the character will die or just retire, we don’t know. However, Evans’ departure is a source of a ton of speculation. Who will pick up the shield and continue the tradition of Captain America? Well, according to one star of the ‘Captain America’ series, it might not be another prototypical white guy superhero.

Speaking to Larry King on “Larry King Now,” actor Frank Grillo talked about the possibility of the next Captain America being a woman or a Person of Color. He says he’s not sure exactly what Marvel Studios has planned for the character that has turned into the heart and soul of the Marvel Cinematic Universe but “there have been rumors that Captain America could be African American. It could be a woman. You know? So, they’re looking.”

Obviously, this isn’t any sort of confirmation that Grillo has some inside knowledge of the behind-the-scenes happenings at Disney. That being said, the actor is a fairly reliable source given his work on multiple films in the MCU.

So, the question remains, who might this mystery person be? Well, the easiest answer is Anthony Mackie, who plays Sam Wilson, aka Falcon. Mackie has starred in two previous ‘Captain America’ films, as well as a small part in “Avengers: Age of Ultron” and a much larger appearance in “Avengers: Infinity War.” Sam Wilson has also been Captain America in the comics, recently taking over for Steve Rogers after the character stepped down. However, last we saw Falcon in the MCU, he was…err, dust.

As for any potential women, it could be a variety of people or even someone brand new. Fans haven’t been too keen on Emily VanCamp’s recent appearances in the ‘Cap’ films as Sharon Carter, and it’s unlikely they would promote her to the star status. But of course, stranger things have happened.

Regardless of who carries the shield, it would appear that Marvel Studios is keen on bringing a new take to Captain America.
