‘Bird Box’ Trailer: Sandra Bullock Is Captive In Another Awards Contender For Netflix & Director Susanne Bier

Complain all you want about Netflix, and yes, some of those grievances are absolutely, legitimate, but there’s no denying, some of the problems with their release strategies they have a terrific fall slate. They have/are releasing movies by the Coen Brothers, Jeremy Saulnier, David McKenzie, Alfonso Cuaron and more. And given that line-up, they have a strong shot at the Oscars this year (aside from documentaries where they’ve always been strong), perhaps for the first time ever (“Beasts Of No Nation,” their first shot at a Best Picture contender in 2015 was a non-starter). But you can add one more film to that awards-contending pack: “Bird Box” starring Sandra Bullock.

And its directed by a terrific female director to boot, Academy Award winner Susanne Bier, known for the Oscar-nominated “After the Wedding” (which introduced much of the world to Mads Mikkelsen, the less loved “Serena,” with Jennifer Lawrence and more recently, “The Night Manager” miniseries with starring Tom Hiddleston and Hugh Laurie.

“Bird Box” is based on an post-apocalyptic book and centers on a woman and a pair of children who are blindfolded and make their way through a dystopian setting along a river.
