‘Terminator’ Sequel Now Officially ‘Dark Fate’ & Preparing For A Box Office Brawl With Upcoming ‘Charlie’s Angels’ Reboot
We heard rumblings this was the case, but now it’s official – Tim Miller’s upcoming ‘Terminator’ sequel is titled “Terminator: Dark Fate.” And its first enemy is a group of female ass-kickers and not a legion of cybernetic organisms.
Deadline has revealed that the official title for the film is indeed ‘Dark Fate,’ after James Cameron hinted at that months ago. The film marks the return of Linda Hamilton to the series after she starred in the first two films, which are really the only good entries, if we’re being blunt. After the box office and critical failure of “Terminator: Genisys,” which was meant to serve as a reboot for the series, creating a new Sarah Connor in Emilia Clarke, Paramount went back to the source – James Cameron – for its newest iteration.

‘Dark Fate’ is being described as the true sequel to “T2: Judgment Day,” which is clearly the high-point in the series and perhaps all ‘90s action films. With Cameron reportedly heavily involved in the making of this sixth ‘Terminator’ film, fans are hoping they can finally see a quality film in the franchise since that 1991 film.
As mentioned, Tim Miller was chosen to shepherd this film, and he brought along newcomers to the franchise Mackenzie Davis and Natalia Reyes to join Hamilton in the fight for the survival of humanity against the robots. But for those three women to be successful, they’re going to have to knock out three other women in the process.
Another bit of info that is confirmed is the fact that Paramount is sticking firm on its November 1 release date, which puts it in direct competition with “Charlie’s Angels.” ‘Angels’ comes from filmmaker Elizabeth Banks and stars Kristen Stewart, Ella Balinska, and Naomie Scott as the titular ladies. Apparently, the studio behind ‘Dark Fate’ is so confident in the film’s box office prospects, it doesn’t think that “Charlie’s Angels” poses any threat.

However, as we saw last December, competition is competition, no matter where it comes from, and having two action-heavy films opening on the same day is certain to lead to some cannibalization. Interestingly enough, both films are reboots (‘Dark Fate’ is more a reboot-quel, but whatever) of classic franchises.
So, will fans line up for K-Stew and her crew or Linda Hamilton and her’s? We shall find out on November 1, when “Charlie’s Angels” and “Terminator: Dark Fate” open in theaters.
