Martin Scorsese/Leonardo DiCaprio Film ‘Killers Of The Flower Moon’ Will Finally Go Into Production Thanks To Paramount

There’s something comforting about the familiar. Sure, everyone likes surprises and experimentation, but sometimes you just want to fall back on something that is a known quantity. And that’s exactly what a new film from Martin Scorsese and Leonardo DiCaprio is like. So far, the duo has released a number of films, and while each is different, you just know that you’re in good hands when you sit down and watch. Now, it appears that we’re finally going to get another film from the actor and director, as Paramount announced it will finance and distribute the film “Killers of the Flower Moon.”

According to Deadline, the studio recently announced that it has purchased the rights to the film project and will bring it to life with director Martin Scorsese and actor Leonardo DiCaprio attached. This isn’t the first time we’ve heard about “Killers of the Flower Moon,” but news on the project had stalled as the film wasn’t landing at a specific studio. Now, with Scorsese wrapping up his film “The Irishman” and DiCaprio suddenly having a free schedule, the stars have aligned and ‘Killers’ will be coming our way soon enough.

“Killers of the Flower Moon” is based on the non-fiction book from author David Grann and tells the story of the early days of the FBI as the organization investigates a series of murders of Native Americans that discovered oil on their land. The film is being scripted by Oscar-winning writer Eric Roth.

While not the main story here, it’s interesting that Scorsese has landed with Paramount for his newest feature. He’s been a big fan of Netflix, having released multiple films with the streaming service, including the aforementioned “The Irishman,” which is poised to have a big awards push later this year. Of course, this isn’t an indictment on the streaming service, but shows that Scorsese isn’t willing to jump on the streaming bandwagon completely, yet.

As mentioned, DiCaprio was attached to the new film from Guillermo del Toro, titled “Nightmare Alley,” but recently pulled out when an agreement couldn’t be reached. Depending on when “Killers of the Flower Moon” begins production, it could be that DiCaprio saw the opportunity to work with Scorsese again on the film they’ve been developing and jumped at it.

There’s no release date set for “Killers of the Flower Moon.”
