Kevin Feige Crushes Fanboys’ Dreams & Debunks Rumor Of A Spider-Man/Deadpool Team-Up Film

With the rise of superhero films becoming the most dominant genre at the box office, there has been a ton of folks out there that spread tons of rumors based on “insider knowledge.” For the most part, these are all bunk and don’t really catch on. However, sometimes these rumors get picked up by websites and blogs and become “fact.” (We’ve been guilty of being duped in the past, as well.) That seems to be the case with a recent rumor that the third ‘Spider-Man’ film under the Marvel Studios banner would have an appearance by Deadpool.

But according to the one man on the planet with deep knowledge of the situation, Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige, that is simply not the case.

While promoting the upcoming “Spider-Man: Far From Home,” Feige was asked by Comicbook.com about the rumored team-up between Spidey and Deadpool. And considering the execs normally evasive answers, it’s rare to see him flat-out deny something like this.

“No I mean we’re certainly having conversations about the future of all of those Fox properties,’ said Feige. “How to weave them in and when to weave them in. That one, in particular, is not the case.”

Now, if you’re not a fan of the Marvel comic book universe, you may be confused by the idea of Deadpool and Spider-Man teaming up. One is a foul-mouthed murderer that saves the day. The other is a teenage science nerd that helps the little guy. However, both are funny, joke-y characters that tend to work really well together in the books. In fact, there’s a fairly long-running series that is just about Spider-Man and Deadpool teaming up. So, even though they don’t seem very similar, the two heroes have proven to be a good combo.

That being said, in the movie world, Deadpool is the star of his own very R-rated franchise, while Sony/Marvel have kept Spider-Man firmly in the PG-13 world. Sure, it wouldn’t be too far-fetched to see a situation where Marvel would want Deadpool and Spidey to team up, the odds of that being able to happen in a PG-13 film distributed by Sony is almost impossible.

So, much like 90% of the rumors floating around, we can file this one in the crap bin.
