Eliza Clark Named New Showrunner For Highly-Anticipated FX Series ‘Y’ Starring Barry Keoghan & Diane Lane

For years, Hollywood has been trying to bring Brian K. Vaughan and Pia Guerra’s award-winning comic book series, “Y: The Last Man” to life. There were multiple films in development, each falling apart eventually. And then came word that FX was going to turn the comics into a TV series, with an incredible cast announced. Fans were obviously overjoyed. But that joy was shortlived, as it was recently reported that there was trouble behind-the-scenes with showrunners being let go and the series in flux.

But now, according to Deadline, FX has righted the ship and the series, simply titled “Y,” is back on track and ready to continue. The network announced that Eliza Clark, who previously worked on the TNT series “Animal Kingdom,” has been signed to replace Aida Mashaka Croal and Michael Green as showrunner on the upcoming drama. Croal and Green left the project due to “creative differences,” leaving the highly-anticipated show without a leader.

“A decade ago I devoured the complete ‘Y: The Last Man’ series cover to cover, imagining how it might take shape on screen,” Clark said. “It introduced me to the amazing work of Brian K. Vaughan and Pia Guerra and the complex, fascinating world of ‘Y.’ I’m thrilled to tell this story and to be working with this immensely talented cast.”

The talented cast that Clarke alludes to includes Barry Keoghan, Imogen Poots, Lashana Lynch, Juliana Canfield, Marin Ireland, Amber Tamblyn, and Diane Lane. Yes, as you might have gathered, there’s a lot of females attached to the series, which makes sense given the story.

‘Y’ follows the last man on Earth, Yorick, played by Keoghan. After a mysterious plague wipes out every male mammal on the planet, Yorick and his pet monkey, Ampersand, traverse the new society, encountering what’s left of the government, gangs, and all sorts of other characters that have evolved since losing all the men.

“We were chasing Eliza Clark as a writer long before we knew that she shared our obsession with ‘Y: The Last Man,’” executive producer Nina Jacobson said. “Eli’s singular voice and insight into the world and themes of ‘Y’ make her uniquely suited to bring this story to life.”

Joining in the praise is FX President of Original Programming Nick Grad, who said, “Eliza Clark is an enormously talented writer and producer whose ambitious vision for ‘Y’ will only enhance the mystique and allure of this powerful story. We are thrilled to have her on board and partner with this stellar cast, Brian, Nina, Brad and Melina.”

It’s expected that the pilot episode of ‘Y’ will undergo changes now that Clark is aboard. But production on the series is expected to continue, as FX seems to have an immense belief that ‘Y’ will be a hit for the network.
