‘Rambo V: Last Blood’ Trailer: The Legend Comes Home In A ‘Logan’ Style Finale

At this year’s international Cannes Film Festival, audience members got a look at the trailer for “Rambo V: Last Blood,” which will likely be the final film of Sylvester Stallone’s Rambo franchise. Thirty-seven years after the release of the 1982 action classic “First Blood,” it looks like the 72-year old actor will be back for yet another intense action film.

While Lionsgate has been quick to block all leaked trailers of the upcoming films, initial reports from Cannes indicate that “Rambo V” will be similar to the dark intensity of “First Blood,” rather than the over-the-top violence of the other Rambo films. Directed by Adrian Grunberg and written by Stallone and Matt Cirulnick, the film will follow Rambo as he heads to Mexico to rescue a friend’s granddaughter who has been kidnapped by a Mexican drug cartel. And by the looks of it, it has a “Logan“-esque mournful quality to it. The movie looks something of a lament for all the blood that’s been spilled over the years.

Besides promoting the film at Cannes, Stallone has also been sharing many behind-the-scenes photos and videos via his social media accounts. These include pictures of Stallone as Rambo dressed in cowboy gear in Arizona, a photo of him covered in blood and holding his signature bow, and a video of Rambo using a spear in a dusty cave.

While all of these may give fans reasons to be excited for the final chapter of the Rambo franchise, there may be some reasons for concern. Last October, Stallone posted a photo describing how he was still reworking the screenplay even while filming was underway. Though this does not necessarily mean the film is in trouble, it does raise a few flags, especially given the film’s rocky production history (Stallone has been trying to get this film made since 2009 – one iteration even including Rambo facing off against a “genetically engineered creature”).

However, despite the film’s many rewrites and re-workings, fans should remain confident in Stallone’s experience as an action star and his ability to create hard-hitting, brutal action scenes. Gear up for “Rambo V: Last Blood” on September 20 and watch the new teaser trailer here.
