‘Onward’: Chris Pratt & Tom Holland Are Suburban Teenage Elf Brothers In First Look Images From Pixar Film
Pixar is poised to have a massive summer with the upcoming release of “Toy Story 4.” Not only is the animation studio revisiting one of their classic franchises, but as we’ve reported before, this film seemingly marks the end for sequels and spin-offs in the Pixar world. And they’re kicking off a new era of original content next March with the film “Onward.”
And as we see in the new images for the Pixar film, it looks like the studio is ready to tackle the world of suburban elves. Because, sure, why not? Hell, it’s Pixar, so honestly, we’re watching this no matter what.

“Onward” tells the story of two elf brothers that go on an adventure outside the comforts of their suburban neighborhood to see if there’s still magic left in the world. And considering this is a Pixar film, “Onward” features a whos-who of voice actors, including Tom Holland, Chris Pratt, Julia Louis-Dreyfuss, and Octavia Spencer.
“We were looking for someone who could have this shy quality and someone who is good at being a little awkward,” said writer-director Dan Scanlon (via People). “And Tom is great at that! And yet has a genuine sweetness to him that you really root for him.”
As for Pratt, it appears that Pixar was looking for someone to be the exact opposite of Tom Holland’s character.
“We wanted someone who was the exact opposite of that,” Scanlon said. “Someone who could be wild and chaotic and out of control, but in a very charming and infectious way. And Chris Pratt is perfect for that. He has this ability to be both sort of wild and out of control but in a really lovable, fun, infectious way.”

Plus, as an added bonus of hiring Chris Pratt and Tom Holland to star in your film, you get built-in, pre-existing chemistry, courtesy of the two actors’ time together on the set of the recent ‘Avengers’ films.
“They are clearly friends,” Scanlon said. “They’ve worked together before and hung out together. It was fun to sit back and watch them make each other laugh.”
“Onward” is scheduled to hit theaters on March 6, 2020.
