‘Cobra’: Sylvester Stallone Says His Bruce Springsteen-Inspired, ’80s Action Film Could Become A Streaming Series

The name Marion Cobretti probably doesn’t bring back the same nostalgia that John Rambo or Rocky Balboa might. But if you’re a big fan of ‘80s action films, particularly those of Sylvester Stallone, you probably remember Cobretti as the badass Zombie Squad (the super elite police force, not some ‘Walking Dead’ rejects) cop, murdering folks in “Cobra.” And in a new interview, Stallone says that the time is right for the world to be re-introduced to “Cobra,” but in a different format.

Speaking to Deadline, the actor said that he’s said the “Cobra” film never took off and started a major franchise like “Rocky” or “Rambo.” That being said, he’s exploring the idea of a “Cobra” streaming TV series.

“That [conceit] was what if Bruce Springsteen had a gun?” said Stallone. “That was rock n’ roll meets drama. That should have been another franchise because that character was so cool. And I blew it. My personal life got in the way. But we’re trying to bring it back as a streaming TV series. Bring out the Zombie Squad. I’m long gone, but the idea is really good.”

Sure, why not?

The streaming TV landscape is littered with reboots, revivals, and a ton of other shows that you can just as easily skip. If this was network TV, or even cable, it might be sad to think that a film that isn’t probably in Stallone’s own Top 5 best roles (I’d even put “Over the Top” well above “Cobra,” just sayin’) would get the chance to take the spot in a programming schedule away from something else. But you know what? Throw this bad boy on YouTube Premium or Facebook Watch (not sure it can make the top tier streamers, respectfully), and I’ll give it a look-see.

If for nothing else, anyone involved in the “Cobra” TV series would have to include a version of the infamous (but amazing) pizza scene, right?
