‘Wild Rose’ Trailer: A Country Music Star Is Born…In Scotland
Jessie Buckley is an actress that still might be flying under the radar of many film fans. However, trust us, you’ll know her name soon enough. With an incredible number of strong performances in her early films and TV roles, the actress hits center stage in the upcoming musical drama, “Wild Rose.”
As seen in the new trailer for “Wild Rose,” it would be quick to simply describe the film as the Scottish version of “A Star is Born.” But writing it off as that wouldn’t do the film justice, as Buckley seems to turn in a star-making performance of her own as the Scottish singer-songwriter that dreams of hitting it big in Nashville, as a country music star. Unfortunately, the young Rose-Lynn feels the world is against her, as her family, friends, and random strangers want to keep telling her that her dreams of stardom are unlikely. So, she grinds away with small bar gigs and her daytime job as a housekeeper.

As mentioned, Buckley is right on the cusp of being a major name in the film industry. She starred in the 2017 film “Beast” and the FX series “Taboo.” However, the future is looking really bright for the young actress, as she has roles in the upcoming “Voyage of Doctor Doolittle,” “Misbehavior,” and “I’m Thinking of Ending Things” (where she takes over a role once occupied by Brie Larson). In addition to those films, she’s also got a starring role in the highly-anticipated HBO series “Chernobyl.” So yeah, if you don’t know Buckley now, you definitely will in a year’s time.
Buckley stars opposite Julie Walters, Sophie Okonedo, Jamie Sives, Craig Parkinson, James Harkness, Janey Godley, Daisy Littlefield, Adam Mitchell, Ryan Kerr, and Nicole Kerr.
“Wild Rose” hits theaters on June 14.
Here’s the synopsis:
Jessie Buckley delivers a star-making performance as Rose-Lynn, a would-be country singer who dreams of leaving her rough life in Glasgow, Scotland for the bright lights of Nashville. Fresh out of a stint in prison, Rose-Lynn is a single mom with an ankle monitor, a curfew, and a concerned mother (Julie Walters), who wants her to focus more on her two children and less on her music. But when Rose- Lynn tries to hold down a housekeeping job, her boss (Sophie Okonedo) hears her singing and becomes an unlikely supporter, intent on getting her to Nashville despite the long odds. Caught between hope and responsibility, Rose-Lynn must find her place without abandoning her raw talent and grand ambitions.
