Remember That Whole Racist Revenge Thing? Liam Neeson Would Like To Remind You He’s Still Really Sorry
A little over a month ago, Liam Neeson became the subject of major headlines right before the release of his latest film, “Cold Pursuit.” However, much to the chagrin of the folks involved in that film, Neeson’s headlines weren’t complimentary, to say the least. The actor had divulged some information about an incident that occurred decades previous that painted him in a not-so-friendly, and frankly racist, light. He quickly apologized. But yet, he’s not ready to let it go.

Perhaps fearing future career implications for his actions, Neeson once again made a public apology. This time, he wasn’t prompted by any sort of headlines or any new stories coming out. Instead, he just wanted to write a new apology to once again tell everyone that he’s “profoundly” sorry.
He says that over the last several weeks, he’s reflected on what he’s said and the actions that took place decades prior. “The horror of what happened to my friend ignited irrational thoughts that do not represent the person I am. In trying to explain those feelings today, I missed the point and hurt many people at a time when language is so often weaponized and an entire community of innocent people are targeted in acts of rage,” said Neeson.

For those that don’t remember, Neeson openly admitted that after the rape of one of his close friends decades ago, he went to predominantly Black communities and was looking for someone to fight him so that he could kill the person. He didn’t know who the rapist was, but only knew the color of his skin, so he wanted to hurt a Black person, specifically. As you might imagine, people weren’t pleased to hear this revelation.
Needless to say, it appears that Neeson really, really wants this all to be behind him as he pushes forward and tries to get new acting gigs. It’ll be interesting to see if the actor is truly “canceled” (as the kids say) or if he’ll be able to recover.
Here’s the entire new apology (via Deadline):
“Over the last several weeks, I have reflected on and spoken to a variety of people who were hurt by my impulsive recounting of a brutal rape of a dear female friend nearly 40 years ago and my unacceptable thoughts and actions at that time in response to this crime. The horror of what happened to my friend ignited irrational thoughts that do not represent the person I am. In trying to explain those feelings today, I missed the point and hurt many people at a time when language is so often weaponized and an entire community of innocent people are targeted in acts of rage. What I failed to realize is that this is not about justifying my anger all those years ago, it is also about the impact my words have today. I was wrong to do what I did. I recognize that, although the comments I made do not reflect, in any way, my true feelings nor me, they were hurtful and divisive. I profoundly apologize.”
