‘Unicorn Store’ Trailer: Bright Colors Abound In Brie Larson’s Directorial Debut Coming To Netflix
One of the most anticipated films to come out of the 2017 TIFF was Brie Larson’s directorial debut “Unicorn Store.” The film seems to be in line with Larson’s own description of the film being “an abstract self-portrait of myself.”

The official synopsis reads:
“Kit (Larson) is a die-hard dreamer, an artist whose canvases are riddled with rainbows and glitter. Unfortunately, art school doesn’t want her, and her New Age parents (Joan Cusack and Bradley Whitford) feel it’s time she grew up. Kit gets a temp gig at an ad agency and it seems she’s finally surrendered herself to inevitable adulthood. But then along comes a series of mysterious invitations to a hidden store, where a cheerful salesman in a shiny pink suit (Samuel L. Jackson) offers her something she’s spent her whole life waiting for: her very own unicorn. The one condition is that Kit must prove she’s responsible enough to take care of her magical pet. With the help of a new friend, Virgil (TIFF 2017 Rising Star Mamoudou Athie), Kit gets to work constructing a stable — but can this promise of a fabled creature really come true?”
The film was written by first-time screenwriter Samantha McIntyre (who wrote on FXs short-lived show “Married”). Larson first came across the script when she auditioned for the film, only as an actress over 6 years ago, so the film has been a long time coming. In addition to Larson, Cusack, Whitford, and Samuel L Jackson, the film also co-stars Hamish Linklater and features a score by Phantom Planet’s Alex Greenwald (who is also Larson’s partner).
Netflix recently picked up the film as part of an overall deal with Larson, and will release “Unicorn Store” on its streaming platform on April 5.
