Skynet Forces ‘Charlie’s Angels’ To Delay November Release By Two Weeks

In the box office struggle between the forces of Skynet and the disembodied voice of Charlie Townsend, it appears that the latter (and his Angels) is the first to blink.

Recently, we reported that “Terminator: Dark Fate” had officially staked its claim to the release date of November 1. That date just so happened to be the same time that Sony’s upcoming “Charlie’s Angels” reboot was expected to drop in theaters. And considering both films are going after that nostalgia-based, action-movie fan, it could have meant box office suicide for one of those projects. So, it comes as no surprise that one of the films is moving to a later date.

Deadline is reporting that “Charlie’s Angels” has moved its intended release date from November 1 to November 15, a mere two weeks later.

For those not aware of the news surrounding the reboot of the classic ‘70s TV show and early-2000s film series, the new “Charlie’s Angels” is directed by Elizabeth Banks (who also appears in the film) and stars Kristen Stewart, Naomi Scott, and Ella Ballinska. It’s been described as a re-imagining that is putting the female empowerment angle more in focus, as the original series and 2000s films seemed to focus more on the…assets of the cast.

The move to mid-November came at an opportune time. The date was originally occupied by the upcoming “Kingsman” prequel film. However, the report says that film has moved off its original date, which left “Charlie’s Angels” with a free slot to occupy. Of course, the Thanksgiving time is always a fairly busy time for the film industry, as moviegoers tend to flock to the theaters during the holiday.

For November 2019, the multiplex will be quite crowded. In addition to “Charlie’s Angels” and ‘Terminator,’ film fans will also have a chance to catch “Sonic the Hedgehog” (Nov. 8), “Doctor Sleep” (Nov. 8), the Mister Rogers biopic with Tom Hanks titled “A Beautiful Day in the Neighborhood” (Nov. 22), Paul Feig’s “Last Christmas” (Nov. 15), and Rian Johnson’s “Knives Out” (Nov. 27), just to name several.

But at least we avoided the logjam on November 1.
