‘Pennyworth’ First-Look Teaser: Batman’s Butler Is A Young, Badass Bodyguard In 1960s London
You wouldn’t be wrong to think that we’ve entered the era of Peak Superhero TV when you hear that a cable network is developing a drama series based around the early life of Batman’s butler, Alfred Pennyworth. But alas, it’s 2019 and with CW, Hulu, Freeform, Fox, ABC, Netflix, and seemingly every other network attempting to bring their own superhero TV shows to the small screen, the pickings have become…slim.
Enter EPIX and its upcoming series “Pennyworth.” The 10-episode series follows the adventures of the young, badass Alfred Pennyworth, decades before he’d be delivering tea to Bruce Wayne in the Batcave. This Alfred is a former British SAS soldier that is now part of a security company that has been hired by, wait for it…Thomas Wayne! The series is set in 1960s London and is said to show how the young kickass Alfred would mold into the dependable guardian of the young Bruce Wayne some decades later.

“Pennyworth” comes from the mind of Bruno Heller, who is the man who brought fans “Gotham.” He’s brought director Danny Cannon on board, who also had his hand in the “Gotham” stew, as well.
The ‘Batman’ spin-off series stars Jack Bannon, Paloma Faith, Ben Aldridge, Hainsley Lloyd Bennett, Ryan Fletcher, Jason Flemyng, and Polly Walker.
“Pennyworth” is set to arrive on EPIX this summer. You can watch the trailer below.
