‘Captain Marvel’ Actress Mckenna Grace To Star In Jason Reitman’s ‘Ghostbusters’

She won’t be afraid of no ghosts. Mckenna Grace, who played young Carol Danvers in “Captain Marvel” and the young Sabrina Spellman on NetflixChilling Adventures of Sabrina” has bagged one of the lead roles in Jason Reitman’s upcoming “Ghostbusters” sequel. The currently-untitled movie is a continuation that picks up where “Ghostbusters II” left off in the 1980s and discounts the events of Paul Feig’s 2016 all-female “Ghostbusters” film (his film took place in an alternate universe).

Grace completes the puzzle of one of the family’s in the movie. “Stranger Things” star Finn Wolfhard and “The Leftovers” character actress Carrie Coon are already cast, and Reitman revealed via Twitter they are part of one family unit in the film. Character break downs have suggested three more co-leads and three more families. The screenplay, by Reitman and Gil Kenan (the “Poltergeist” remake), centers on four teens, one set older, one set younger, with a focus on one family in particular. It’s unknown if McKenna’s unit will be the lead, but THR, who breaks the news, seems to suggest she might. So, “Ghostbusters” is going to be lead much a younger cast and the rumors of the film seemingly taken inspiration from “Stranger Things” seems legit.

Early on when his career started, Reitman had suggested he had no interest in “Ghostbusters” and wanted to forget his own path, but the filmmaker of “Young Adult,” “Juno” and frequent collaborator of screenwriter Diablo Cody has a change of heart.

Ghostbusters 3” or whatever it is ultimately called shoots this summer and is scheduled for a summer 2020 release. The rest of the casting pieces should arrive soon. The 2016 version of “Ghostbusters” was reported to have lost over $70 million for Sony Pictures and opened up the floodgates of toxic misogynist fandom that is well-explored in this piece, ‘Ghostbusters’ And The Post-Truth Politics Of 2016 Blockbuster Culture. [THR]
