‘Haunting Of Hill House’ Becoming Anthology, Creators Sign Multiyear Contract With Netflix
When “The Haunting of Hill House” first appeared on Netflix last October, just in time for Halloween, the tv series scared the hell out of us in the best way possible. Now, the creators of the show announce their big plans of more horror show fun with their new Netflix agreement.
Based on the 1959 book by Shirley Jackson, Mike Flanagan directed and created the modern adaption of ‘Hill House’ while his film partner Trevor Macy produced. Now, the show has been renewed for a second season, but not with the same old premise. Like “American Horror Story,” the second season of ‘The Haunting’ will not be related to the first season at all, with new characters, new settings, and a new plot. The series will now be called simply “The Haunting,” with the first season sticking to its original “The Haunting of Hill House” title, and the second season taking on the name “The Haunting of Bly Manor.”

It looks like Flanagan and Macy will be sticking to the trend of classic horror books. The second season, according to Deadline, will be based on the 1898 horror novella by Henry James, “The Turn of the Screw.” The story follows the life of a governess, tasked with taking care of two orphaned children, Flora and Miles, by their distant uncle. Young Miles is soon expelled from his boarding school and upon his return home, the presence of two figures begin appearing around the manor. Over time, it becomes apparent that only the governess can see them, and that the ghostly couple has a keen interest in the children. Like ‘Hill House,’ the story will probably get a modern makeover, with lots of new twists and turns sure to scare lovers of the supernatural.

Along with ‘The Haunting’ anthology, Flanagan and Macy are also working on an adaption of Stephen King‘s sequel to “The Shining” entitled “Doctor Sleep,” which will be released by Warner Bros. on November 8, 2019. With these two working hard, we are going to get a lot more good horror in the future.
The second season of ‘The Haunting’ anthology is set to debut on Netflix in 2020.
