Disney Developing Villains-Focused Live-Action Series Titled ‘Book Of Enchantment’ For It’s Streaming Service

Disney had some success with its ABC show “Once Upon a Time,” which took the Princess characters from the studio’s popular fairy tales and brought them to live-action. And now, for its upcoming streaming service, the Mouse House is hoping to flip the script and focus on the villains.

According to THR, Disney has hired Michael Seitzman to write and produce the upcoming series “Book of Enchantment” for its upcoming Disney+ streaming service. The series will be based on the series of novels from author Serena Valentino, which put famous villains like Ursula, the Beast, Maleficent, and more. No plot details are known, as the novel series dedicates an entire book to each villain. We’re guessing the “Once Upon a Time” model will probably apply here, with each villain being part of an ensemble cast of characters.

In a weird way, “Book of Enchantment” can almost be seen as a re-imagining of one of the studio’s already-popular children’s film series, “Descendants.” That franchise is an ensemble piece focused on the offspring of the famous Disney villains. This time, obviously, we’re going to the real goods and probably putting a more adult-oriented spin on the source material.

Seitzman is probably best known for his work on series like “Quantico” and “Code Black.”

There’s no release date for the series, as of now. As with the rest of the streaming service’s lineup of original series, “Book of Enchantment” is added to the list of upcoming projects that don’t have any release details or really any details at all. The only project that we have concrete evidence that it exists at this point is the “Star Wars” spin-off series “The Mandalorian.”

Disney+ is expected to launch sometime in late-2019.
