‘The Boys’ Trailer: Seth Rogen & Evan Goldberg’s Amazon Series Attempts To Show The Darker Side Of Superheroes

Imagine a world where the Justice League or the Avengers were the biggest celebrities on the planet. Now, imagine that they were terrible humans and not the heroes we hoped they’d be. That’s where the upcoming Amazon Prime Video series, “The Boys,” comes in.

Developed by Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg, the guys who adapted another comic book series “Preacher” for AMC, “The Boys” follows a group of vigilantes that know the superteam known as The Seven are just a bunch of horrible fame-seeking celebrities, as we see in the new trailer. The Boys then make it their mission to take down this power-hungry superhero group by any means necessary, even if they have to fight dirty.

The series is based on the comic book of the same name from creators Garth Ennis and Darick Robertson. With franchises like “Justice League” and “Avengers” becoming household names, Amazon is hoping that there are fans out there hoping to look at another take on the classic superteam story, but from a more bleak angle.

“The Boys” stars Karl Urban, Jennifer Esposito, Erin Moriarty, Jack Quaid, and Elisabeth Shue. The series is written by the aforementioned Ennis and Eric Kripke, who is probably best known for his work on “Supernatural.”

“The Boys” hits Amazon Prime Video sometime this summer.

Here’s the synopsis for the series:

In a world where superheroes embrace the darker side of their massive celebrity and fame, THE BOYS centers on a group of vigilantes known informally as “The Boys,” who set out to take down corrupt superheroes with no more than their blue-collar grit and a willingness to fight dirty. The series is a fun and irreverent take on what happens when superheroes – who are as popular as celebrities, as influential as politicians and as revered as Gods – abuse their superpowers rather than use them for good. It’s the powerless against the super powerful as The Boys embark on a heroic quest to expose the truth about “The Seven,” and Vought – the multi-billion dollar conglomerate that manages these superheroes.
