Seth Meyers Unpacks Government Shutdown, Says Political System Is At A “Breaking Point”
During Seth Meyers’ “Closer Look” segment on Late Night, he talked about the thing that is plaguing America at this very moment: the government shutdown.
“Our political system feels like it’s at a breaking point,” he said. “It was always fragile, but then Donald Trump came along and wrecked it. He’s like the guy at a party watching a game of Jenga, going ‘take that one, no that one.’ And then finally someone says, ‘You know what? If you think it’s so easy, you try it.’ And then he just lights the entire Jenga tower on fire.”
He then went into his Trump impression and said: “Boom! Now I collect the insurance money and build a bigger tower.”
The late night host that this is a good test for a political leader and that Trump is failing it for the third time third time during his time in office, realizing that he can’t get rehired after a third strike. “He’s like a stoner at a pizza place,” joked Meyers.
Meyers went on to unpack everyone and everything affected by Trump’s wall and the shutdown, citing that federal workers will not get paid, tax refunds will be delayed, and food stamps will be cut. In addition to that, hundreds of TSA employees have opted to not show up at major airports across the country.
“Can you imagine what a nightmare that will be?” asked Meyers in regards to the lack of TSA workers. “It’s a major disruption when a TSA agent has to go get more plastic bins.”
He added, “Donald Trump is such a bad president that he made air travel worse than it already was.”
