‘Saturday Night Live’ Cold Open: Will It Be ‘Deal Or No Deal’ On Government Shutdown? Trump Chooses
The partial government shutdown appears to be at a crossroads. So SNL decided it was Deal or No Deal to solve the problem in the Cold Open.
Kenan Thompson (portraying host Steve Harvey) introduced Alec Baldwin (Donald Trump) to the game, noting, “We decided to do this in the only format you can understand – a TV game show with women holding briefcases.”
So it was that a host of Washington contenders and pretenders held the secret suitcases, urging Trump to take their deals and end the shutdown.
First up was Kate McKinnon as Nancy Pelosi, holding Case No. 3. Asked how she was feeling, she said, “Oh, just normal. Not like drunk on my own power or anything.” Her offer: $1 billion dollars and you say, “Nancy’s My Mommy.” It was no deal.
Chuck Schumer (Alex Moffat), aka “the older Jewish woman on Case 4” to Trump, offered “Whatever you want” initially, but then came back with a deal of $15 and a pastrami sandwich.
Mitch McConnell appeared next, hiding behind his case. Maxine Waters (Leslie Jones) threatened to subpoena Trump’s taxes, while deals from Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, Cory Booker, Congressman Steve King from Iowa, and Cardi B, offering Shmoney were all turned down.
The winner? Pete Davidson, portraying the anonymous “football player from Clemson,” offered hamberders, Trump’s selection of food offered to the national championship football team from that school. It was an easy choice for Trump.
Watch the skit above.
