Jeff Bridges Revives The Dude & Teases What Is Likely Just A Super Bowl Commercial
The Dude returns…maybe?
Actor Jeff Bridges, who played the iconic Dude in the classic Coen Brothers film “The Big Lebowski,” shared an interesting teaser on his Twitter that points to a new project that just might resurrect his most famous character. But honestly, it’s probably just a Super Bowl commercial.
In the teaser, it just shows the Dude walking across camera, lowering his glasses, and chuckling, followed by a tumbleweed rolling down the street. We have to admit the 15-second teaser isn’t very meaty at all, but it does end with a special date of February 3. Why is that date special? Well, that just so happens to be the day of the biggest television event of the year – the Super Bowl.

The caption for the tweet says, “Can’t be living in the past, man. Stay tuned.” What ‘Lebowski’ fans are more than likely anticipating isn’t a spin-off project featuring the character or even a sequel to the film. Instead, it’s more than likely a commercial for some sort of corporation that pays millions of dollars to have an actor imitate an iconic character for 30 seconds during the biggest sporting event in the world.
Remember this time last year? There was all this hype and excitement for Danny McBride and Chris Hemsworth’s “Crocodile Dundee” reboot, due to a clip from a “trailer” that was circulated before the Super Bowl. What it ended up being was an ad for Australian tourism. And it was most definitely NOT a reboot that people were assuming.
So, moral of the story is simple – it’s exciting to see Bridges bring back the Dude, but don’t get your hopes up. Just be ready for a quick 30-second ad for some insurance company, cola, or website and don’t expect a surprise Coen Brothers announcement.
