Dwayne Johnson Is Happy The World Has “Progressed” But Calls Out “Generation Snowflake” For Setting Society Back
Around these parts, we’re pretty big fans of Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson. As an actor, he’s known for his ridiculous charisma, that’s so immense that even the schlockiest films he appears in are watchable and…dare we say, enjoyable. So, we’re always interested to hear what the actor has to say about the state of the world. But if his new interview is any indication, maybe he should stick to flexing his muscles on screen.
Speaking to the Daily Star, Johnson, who starred in such films as “The Tooth Fairy,” “The Game Plan,” “Baywatch,” and “Race to Witch Mountain,” talked about the state of the world and how society has changed over the last few decades. So, let’s take a look at what he said.

“I don’t have to agree with what somebody thinks, who they vote for, what they voted for, what they think, but I will back their right to say or believe it,” said Johnson. Okay, so far, so good.
“That’s democracy. So many good people fought for freedom and equality – but this generation are looking for a reason to be offended. If you are not agreeing with them then they are offended – and that is not what so many great men and women fought for,” the actor continued. Uh oh. Not sure where this is going.
“We thankfully now live in a world that has progressed over the last 30 or 40 years,” Johnson said. “People can be who they want, be with who they want, and live how they want.” Okay, okay. Nice recovery. We’re back on board.
“That can only be a good thing – but generation snowflake or, whatever you want to call them, are actually putting us backwards,” concluded the actor.

Oh boy. This is quite the discussion to have, huh? Well, one thing is for sure, The Rock is allowed to say whatever he wants. However, you can’t help but feel like there are a few mixed messages here. The “generation snowflake,” as he condescendingly calls it, does seem to be the folks on the front line attempting to ensure that progress that has been achieved over the last 30 or 40 years continues and that the “people can be who they want” message continues to resonate.
However, the use of “snowflake” and the allusion to veterans fighting for freedom seems to play into the more right-wing messaging that seems to be so prevalent in certain areas of social media and, obviously, Fox News. As is the case with folks like James Woods and Tucker Carlson, if you have that opinion that “snowflakes” are always offended, that’s all well and good. That’s on you.

But trying to talk out of both sides of your mouth, as seems to be the way that Dwayne Johnson would like to proceed, is a confusing, dangerous game. So, it’ll be interesting to see how his fans (on both sides) react to these comments, and if The Rock would like to further clarify them. Because as they stand, these comments are not a great look for a man in charge of multiple billion-dollar franchises at major studios, who are averse to stars giving controversial political opinions.
