Assassin's Creed Is Crossing Over With Monster Hunter: World

Capcom's latest Monster Hunter: World crossover event had a stealth launch recently but, given the fact that it's with Assassin's Creed, that's actually appropriate. If you want to slay monsters while looking like a member of the brotherhood, then you've got about a week to tackle some special encounters.

As Gameinformer points out, crossover events within Monster Hunter: World are usually accompanied by a short but strong media push featuring teasers, trailers, screenshots, breakdowns and the like. In true Assassin's Creed form, though, this latest event crept into the game in silence. Full announcements have now gone live, but I appreciate the idea of a couple of assassin's entering MHW to strike without warning.

The in-game event is called "SDF: Silent, Deadly and Fierce," and it sports a pretty great challenge for players to tackle in the hopes of earning a couple suits of armor based on the Assassin's Creed series. This throwdown is set in the arena so, if you're not too confident in your solo skills, you'll likely find plenty of other hunters looking for a team between now and the end date of Jan. 10.

The mission's flavor text explains that you'll be facing off against some "nimble, fierce and impetuous monsters," which translates to a two-on-one battle that evolves into a fight against an elder dragon. First, you'll be fighting an Odogoron and a Deviljho together. They'll fight each other with some gentle goading, so be sure to use their aggression to your advantage. Once you take both of those bad boys out, a Lunastra will drop into the arena for an additional encounter. If you make it through the whole ordeal, you'll earn yourself an item called "Senu's Feather."

Assassin's Creed fans will recognize that as a reference to Bayek's eagle in Origins, and you can snag an outfit that makes you look like that very assassin with a pair of feathers. This one is a layered armor set, which means you can simply don it on top of your actual armor for a simple appearance swap. Another two feathers will grant you an Assassin's Hood item, which gives you a boost of speed when you run, climb or move around while crouching. Also keeping with the theme, you'll be able to do bonus damage while attacking from stealth.

Once you have those items, you can consider the challenge complete. Not a bad way to begin the New Year in Monster Hunter: World, which looks to have a busy 2019 lined up. The game has already had a bunch of sweet crossover events throughout 2018, including the likes of Horizon, Devil May Cry and Street Fighter, to name a few. In just a few weeks, another special event will bring The Witcher's Geralt to the game, though it sounds like that crossover will be a bit more involved and sport some additional gear to craft.

Then, come fall, World is set to get a major expansion when Capcom launches the Iceborne DLC.
