Anonymous Content To Boost Non-Fiction Programming Slate, Hires Fred Grinstein To Run Division

Anonymous Content has confirmed that it has hired Fred Grinstein as Head of Non-Fiction Programming. The veteran development executive has been tasked to work with the company’s clients, managers and producers to develop original non-fiction content for TV, movies and docuseries.

Grinstein has been ramping up in the newly created role and is based in Los Angeles. He arrives from Pulse Films, where he headed the studio’s unscripted division. Before that he spent three years at Vice Media, and as VP TV Development at Viceland worked with creative director/filmmaker Spike Jonze to help launch the channel. Before that he was an executive producer at A&E, where he developed and and oversaw series including Dogs of War, Storage Wars, Neighbors with Benefits and Crazy Hearts.

Also joining AC’s non-fiction team is Dema Paxton Fofang, who has been named Director of Development. Paxton Fofang most recently served as a development executive at Viceland working on series including Desus and Mero, The Therapist and Beerland.

“Non-fiction content is one of the most important categories of filmed entertainment and we are committed to continuing to focus on pursuing as many creative opportunities as possible in this ever-important genre,” Anonymous Content’s partners said in a joint statement. “With such a talented, seasoned executive like Fred leading the charge, we are all extremely excited to bring inspiring, innovative, and unbelievable real-life stories to audiences around the world.”

The non-fiction fare will augment a film slate that has included Best Picture Oscar winner Spotlight and The Revenant and current original series like HBO’s True Detective, Amazon’s Homecoming and Netflix’s 13 Reasons Why. Upcoming projects include Hulu’s Catch-22 and TNT’s One Day She’ll Darken.

“Anonymous Content helps define the global standard for prestige filmmaking and storytelling, and we’re eager to extend that skill-set to the non-fiction arena,” Grinstein said. “It’s such a dynamic and exciting time for documentary and non-fiction content, and the timing feels ideal for our network of best in class talent, creatives and exclusive intellectual property to make a big impact.”
