Watch Family Guy's Hilariously Touching Tribute To Carrie Fisher
When Carrie Fisher passed away back in 2016, fans, friends, and co-workers immediately shared tributes and kind words about the iconic actress who had come to mean so much to so many. Although Fisher is undoubtedly best known for her role as Princess Leia in the Star Wars franchise, she also contributed to more than twenty episodes of Family Guy as Peter's inappropriate and always entertaining boss, Angela.
Well, almost two years after Carrie Fisher's passing, Family Guy will air a hilariously touching tribute to Fisher in the form of her character's funeral. Take a look:
With her unforgettable sense of humor, I can't help but feel that Carrie Fisher would have loved this tribute courtesy of Family Guy. The first 50 seconds are pure comedy, with Peter quoting classic sitcom theme songs from shows like The Mary Tyler Moore Show and Cheers, and I'll admit to laughing out loud when Peter did the handclaps from the Friends theme song. The reveal of how Angela died was funny as well. Alas, poor Angela, dying because she swam less than 20 minutes after eating.
After dropping a few punchlines, Family Guy moved on to the touching part of the tribute to the late and oh-so-great Carrie Fisher. Although Peter was technically talking about Angela, it's quite clear that his words are about Fisher. I can't say that anybody would have described Angela as having "grace, courage, and an unmatched zest for life," but Carrie Fisher? Absolutely.
Peter's closing line that "Heaven has gained a princess" is such a lovely note to end the eulogy on that of course Family Guy had to go for one more joke to close things out, as Peter realized that he was very much at the wrong funeral. Fortunately for fans who aren't looking to start tearing up due to Family Guy of all shows, Peter also dropped comments about "Angela" living on via DVDs, streaming video, and messages projected via droid.
This clip will air at the beginning of the next episode of Family Guy, which will also introduce Peter's new bosses, voiced by Bryan Cranston and Niecy Nash. It will not be Family Guy's first tribute to Carrie Fisher since her death. An episode began with an image of Carrie Fisher, with "In Loving Memory" on top, and the series actually featured Fisher's voice talents even after she passed away. The actress had already recorded material, and a Family Guy executive producer fondly described one of her final performances as "ridiculously gross but hilarious."
New episodes of Family Guy air Sundays at 9 p.m. ET on Fox. Tune in on December 9 to see the tribute to Carrie Fisher on broadcast as well as how the show fills the hole left by Angela. The two new bosses will have to be pretty wild to even come close to matching Angela, and it could be quite a ride.
