‘Vice’ & ‘Bohemian Rhapsody’ Easily Make MakeUp & Hairstyling Oscar Shortlist

The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences announced the shortlist for the 2019 Makeup and Hairstyling Oscar and, as expected, this competitive year provided some upsets.  The work of “Vice,” “Bohemian Rhapsody” and “Mary Queen of Scots” made the cut, but “The Favourite,” “Destroyer,” and the “Fantastic Beasts” sequel, all considered viable contenders, were notably snubbed.

The seven films selected by the Makeup and Hairstyling committee are as follows:

“Black Panther”
“Bohemian Rhapsody”
“Border”
“Mary Queen of Scots”
“Stan & Ollie”
“Suspiria”
“Vice”

In January, all members of the Academy’s Makeup Artists and Hairstylists Branch will be invited to view 10-minute excerpts from each of the seven shortlisted films. Following the screenings, members will vote to nominate three films for final Oscar consideration.

The 91st Academy Awards nominations will be announced on Tuesday, Jan. 22.

The 91st Academy Awards will be revealed on Sunday, Feb. 24 on ABC beginning at 5 PM PT, 8 PM ET.
