Resident Evil 3 Remake May Already Be In The Works

Capcom is riding a really powerful hype train right now with the remake of Resident Evil 2. The game has been receiving a lot of praise and adoration from the gaming community for how faithful and yet how original the new game seems to be. However, Capcom may not be done, and there could be a Resident Evil 3 remake in the works, too.

VideoGamer is reporting on a rumor that there are supposedly leaks of a remake for Resident Evil 3: Nemesis that came out back on PC and PSX nearly 20 years ago. The rumor is that the game is in full development right now, given that Resident Evil 2's remake is likely already complete in preparation for its launch in January of 2019 for home consoles and PC.

This kind of rumor doesn't seem all too far off given that Capcom should be announcing that Resident Evil 2 has gone gold any day now, and that means the team is either going to start moving on to DLC or some post-launch patches to have ready to fix some of the glitches or issues that pop up after it releases. The rest of the team moving over to work on Resident Evil 3: Nemesis seems like somewhat of a safe bet as far as rumors are concerned, because that would give it about a year or two worth of development time, depending on how much it borrows from Resident Evil 2.

A user on ResetEra named DuskGolem was the one who dropped the rumor, and VideoGamer notes that this user has also leaked other Resident Evil-related news in the past, including details for the Not A Hero DLC featuring Chris Redfield for Resident Evil 7. So people are trusting that what DuskGolem is leaking is possibly true and that it may hold some weight.

To further add to this is the fact that Capcom has not ruled out making more remakes of classic Resident Evil games. According to DuskGolem, Resident Evil 3 is the only game that hasn't in some way received a remastered or remade version compared to all the other games that came before it and after it.

It's true that there have been countless remakes and remasters of the original Resident Evil, and as we know the second game is also getting a remake, but the third game has mostly been left untouched by Capcom.

Given that Capcom has found a solid method to develop high-quality photorealistic assets and characters in a cost effective manner that has allowed the teams to generate content rapidly for the games, including titles like Devil May Cry 5, it's completely likely that Capcom already has a slew of games in the works and ready to be remade from yesteryear.

Of course, this is still a rumor and it should be treated as such. It would be more prudent to take it with a grain of salt until Capcom officially confirms that a remake for Resident Evil 3 is in the works.
