Bethesda Is Making Good On Its Fallout 76 Power Armor Edition Snafu

Bethesda has been put in a pretty awful bind lately with the whole canvas bag snafu that was originally supposed to arrive with the $200 Collector's Edition of Fallout 76: Power Armor Edition. After originally denying customers the canvas bag, Bethesda had a change of heart.

Over on the official Bethesda Support account on Twitter, the company announced that it was finalizing a canvas bag option for customers who purchased the original collector's edition of Fallout 76. This comes after the company originally stated that the canvas bags were unavailable.

If you still have the package receipt for your order of the $200 version of Fallout 76: Power Armor Edition, you can visit the support site and fill out the appropriate information in order to get a replacement for the nylon back that came with the package. You will have to submit a ticket by January 31st, 2019 and Bethesda will arrange to send out a canvas bag replacement as soon as possible.

Back when gamers first brought the bag discrepancy to Bethesda's attention, the customer support said that the canvas bag materials were unavailable, hence that was the reason why the company was unable to fulfill the requests for the customers who purchased the collector's edition. Later, some people reached out to the Bethesda Gear Shop support, which handles the items sold through the Bethesda Gear Shop, which is an online shopping store. The Gear support, however, said that the canvas bag that was supposed to come in the bundle pack was too expensive to make and that they wouldn't be doing anything about it.

Later, Bethesda issued a statement to the press, indicating that the statements from the Bethesda Gear support staff claiming that the canvas bag was too expensive to make was incorrect and that the materials being unavailable was the real issue.

Things became a little more heated when it was revealed that Bethesda actually did have canvas bags made, but that they were given out for free to YouTubers and influencers who had been invited out to an event in West Virginia back in September. Obviously the customers who paid $200 for the Fallout 76: Power Armor Edition were curious why the YouTubers got a canvas bag and why they didn't.

This also resulted in a law firm investigating the situation for a possible class action lawsuit on the grounds that Bethesda pulled a bait-and-switch and falsely advertised a canvas bag only to replace it with a nylon bag without informing customers beforehand that the canvas bag was being replaced with a cheaper nylon bag. The firm was also investigating Bethesda on the grounds of failing to refund customers who purchased the digital versions of the game.

After the internet hate machine did its thing, Bethesda eventually recoiled from its position and decided to finally offer the customers of the $200 collector's edition the canvas bag that they were originally promised when the Fallout 76: Power Armor Edition became available for purchase.
