Stars John Boyega & Letitia Wright To Headline Sci-Fi Romance Film From ‘Another Earth’ Director
One’s a breakout star from Disney’s massive “Star Wars” franchise. The other is a breakout star from…another massive Disney franchise, the Marvel Cinematic Universe. And now, the combined breakout-ness of John Boyega and Letitia Wright is coming together for a new sci-fi film “Hold Back the Stars.”
Deadline reports that author Katie Khan’s sci-fi novel “Hold Back the Stars” is getting the big-screen treatment thanks to director Mike Cahill and writer Christy Hall. The film will tell the story of a man (Boyega) and a woman (Wright) struggling to survive in space with only 90 minutes of oxygen left. While they attempt to survive, the duo recounts their love affair while on the utopian Earth. The report says that the film is being described as “Gravity” meets “Romeo & Juliet.”

As mentioned, Boyega is one of the stars of the relaunched “Star Wars” universe under Lucasfilm. He appeared in ‘The Force Awakens,’ ‘The Last Jedi,’ and will star in the upcoming untitled ‘Episode IX.’ Outside of the galaxy far, far away, Boyega also appeared in “Attack the Block” and recently “Pacific Rim Uprising.” He’ll soon be heard as a voice in the upcoming “Watership Down” series.
Wright saw her star rise thanks to scene-stealing performances in both “Black Panther” and “Avengers: Infinity War.” However, before hitting the mainstream in those superhero films, the actress appeared in “Black Mirror” and “Doctor Who.” She’ll also be seen in the upcoming “Avengers 4,” dealing with the incredible losses suffered at the end of the film.

“Hold Back the Stars” looks to be a breakout film for director Mike Cahill. After gaining some notoriety on the indie sci-fi film “Another Earth,” he followed it up with the film “I Origins” and some episodes of series such as “The Magicians,” “The Path,” “Rise,” and the upcoming “Nightflyers.” Clearly, “Hold Back the Stars” will be his largest project yet.
There’s no release date for “Hold Back the Stars,” as the film is looking to sure up distribution and financing, but with the talents of Wright, Boyega, and Cahill, the sci-fi romance should garner plenty of interest.
