Netflix is the place to be when you're in the mood to sit down and stream some TV, with hundreds of options in just about every genre available. For those who sometimes are just in the mood to have the pants scared off of them, Netflix has a variety of horror options to keep you on the edge of your seat and perhaps even haunt your dreams. Read on for our picks of the best horror TV series available to stream on Netflix! American Horror StoryCast: Evan Peters, Sarah Paulson, Denis O'Hare, Jessica Lange, Lily Rabe, Frances Conroy, Cheyenne Jackson, and many more Why It's One Of The Best Horror Shows: In case having "Horror" in the name isn't enough of a sign that it's a show worth watching if you want to be scared, American Horror Story manages to deliver a new batch of frights every season as an anthology. Seasons boast ghosts, witches, serial killers, "freak show" performers, and an anti-Christ, to name only some. Oh, and a terrifying clown known as Twisty, and Twisty could give Pennywise the Dancing Clown a run for his money. Seasons Available: 7. Season 8 is currently airing on FX, so there are new scares to be seen if you binge your way through what Netflix has to offer. Twin PeaksCast: Kyle MacLachlan, Ray Wise, Michael Ontkean, Madchen Amick, Lara Flynn Boyle, Sherilyn Fenn, Richard Beymer, Sheryl Lee, Frank Silva Why It's One Of The Best Horror Shows: David Lynch's Twin Peaks spins a murder mystery that combines crime with the supernatural, all against a backdrop of a town and population that are much stranger than they initially seem. The death of Laura Palmer is far from straightforward, and FBI Agent Dale Cooper's investigation leads him to some seriously unsettling discoveries. Twin Peaks uses horror tropes in the best way, and you should at least watch through the second episode until you meet BOB. Without Twin Peaks' original run from 1990-1991, shows like The X-Files likely never would have existed. Seasons Available: 2. The 2017 Showtime revival season is not available streaming on Netflix. Stranger ThingsCast: Winona Ryder, David Harbour, Finn Wolfhard, Millie Bobby Brown, Gaten Matarazzo, Caleb McLaughlin, Noah Schnapp, Natalia Dyer, Charlie Heaton, Matthew Modine Why It's One Of The Best Horror Shows: Combining sci-fi with horror, Stranger Things takes viewers back to the 1980s when a boy goes missing. There are monsters and shady government agents and even some telekinesis to mix things up. The very first scene of the series delivers a scare, and that sets the tone for the episodes to come. It's fun, scary, and packed with enough nostalgia that you may want to watch all over again as soon as you're finished. Fair warning: the words "Upside Down" may forever have a new meaning for you after Stranger Things. Seasons Available: 2. A third season is in the works for 2019. The Haunting Of Hill HouseCast: Henry Thomas, Carla Gugino, Michiel Huisman, Elizabeth Reaser, Kate Siegel, Victoria Pedretti, Oliver Jackson-Cohen,Timothy Hutton, Paxton Singleton, Lulu Wilson, Julian Hilliard, Mckenna Grace, Violet McGraw Why It's One Of The Best Horror Shows: Take your pick. Is it the brilliant deconstruction of Shirley Jackson's seminal novel within all these fabulously constructed locations? Is it the constant sense of mournful dread crafted by creator and full-series director Mike Flanagan's masterful filmmaking? Is it the way nearly every single thing seen on the screen is not only interestingly spooky, but also integral to the storyline? Or is it the way the top-notch cast makes viewers feel like they're a part of the tortured Crain family? Correct, it's all of the above and more. Get lost inside of Hill House, and you won't soon escape. Seasons: 1, but it's worth like 3 or 4. Penny DreadfulCast: Reeve Carney, Timothy Dalton, Eva Green, Rory Kinnear, Billie Piper, Harry Treadaway, Josh Hartnett, Helen McCrory Why It's One Of The Best Horror Shows: Penny Dreadful follows characters with names Gothic fiction fans will recognize: Dorian Gray, Count Dracula, Victor Frankenstein, Dr. Henry Jekyll, and more. Entirely original characters are in the mix as well to tackle the unnerving tale of a former explorer on a desperate search for his family. More than a little blood is shed, and as you can expect from a series including versions of characters like Dracula, Dr. Frankenstein, and Jekyll, things have a tendency of getting out of hand in delightfully creepy degrees. Who needs slasher films when you have TV options like Penny Dreadful? Seasons Available: 3. The Twilight ZoneCast: Rod Serling as presenter Why It's One Of The Best Horror Shows: Who says a horror show needs to be from the last few decades to deliver the best kind of chills? The original Twilight Zone (1959-1964) is legendary for a reason, and that reason is not just the eerie opening theme tune. The show featured different stories in each episode, and they could lean into sci-fi, paranormal, futuristic, fantasy, supernatural, and of course, horror. At 25 minutes each, episodes of The Twilight Zone don't even require a lot of time, and they'll stick with you. Whether it's an episode tackling the concept of humanity facing nuclear apocalypse or a doll come to life, an horror fan will be happy to have tuned in. Seasons Available: 4. A new Twilight Zone is on the way courtesy of Jordan Peele as well. Black MirrorCast: Bryce Dallas Howard, Hannah John-Kamen, Hayley Atwell, Cristin Milioti, John Hamm, Daniel Kaluuya, Gugu Mbatha-Raw, Mackenzie Davis, and more Why It's One Of The Best Horror Shows: Black Mirror isn't packed full of axe murderers or demonic monsters, but it will definitely send shivers down your spine. The anthology series is technically near-future sci-fi, and it can get as disturbing and horrifying as anything you've seen with serial killers and ghouls. Not all of the installments are dark and chilling. That said, even the lighter episodes tend to have a warning message that will linger. The latest season covered a Star Trek-esque story as well as a tale about social media that may have you staying off Twitter for a bit. Seasons Available: 4, with a fifth on the way. Ash Vs Evil DeadCast: Bruce Campbell, Ray Santiago, Dana DeLorenzo, Lucy Lawless Why It's One Of The Best Horror Shows: If you want some laughs to go with your campy horror, Ash vs Evil Dead is the show for you. As the sequel to the three Evil Dead films, it picks up 30 years after the third movie. Ash is stuck in an unsatisfying job, but things get interesting very quickly when he's called upon to attach his chainsaw hand and rip his way through armies of Deadites again, with a couple of friends by his side. Although it doesn't hold back on the violence and gore, it also delivers humor. If you want to see Bruce Campbell destroying Deadites in his 50s as well as he did in the movies, Ash vs Evil Dead has your name on it. Seasons Available: 2.
